GIORGIA MAE IN SYDNEY

Nothing is more attractive than you being you. That’s why male grooming brand LYNX has partnered with fashion designer Felix Chan (formerly Vanishing Elephant) to create the Find Your Magic collection. The limited edition men’s accessories are inspired by its new Daily Fragrance range and three individuals who stand out for doing things differently. I’m excited to introduce these creatives with LYNX in a new series of profiles where we’ll get to chat with chef Nathan Sasi, tattoo artist Giorgia Mae and hairdresser Jules Tognini about their Find Your Magic Collection and find out what their magic is. Last but not least…

Tattoo artist Giorgia Mae is quite simply someone who oozes urban style and individuality. An artist since she was in her teens and having been in the tattoo industry since 2012 she is currently tattooing at Hibernia Tattoo in Surry Hills and frequently appears on the TV show, Bondi Ink Tattoo Crew. Giorgia draws inspiration for both life and style through her family’s Scottish roots as well as her family bond, which she compares to that of the wolf pack that spends their lives together.

Tattoo artist Giorgia Mae of Hibernia Tattoo and previously Bondi Ink teamed up with Felix Chan to design three men's fashion accessories for her Find Your Magic Collection - a silk scarf, an arrow tie and a pair of plaid socks.

WHAT DOES YOUR DAY TO DAY LOOK LIKE?

Probably rolling out of bed at like 9am, then slowly sloth into work and start tattooing around midday. We usually wrap up at 7pm and all head out for dinner or get on the drinks. It’s a pretty good day, I can’t complain.

HOW DID YOUR CAREER AS A TATTOO ARTIST GET STARTED?

I got started through a tattooist friend of mine, who (after I was forced to drop out of school, where I was studying animation) thought my art would do well in the tattoo industry. I’ve always wanted to take a shot at tattooing but never really had the confidence, it’s a really hard industry to break into and I was scared of rejection. But he gave me the confidence to go for it and I ended up getting an apprenticeship at the first place I applied to, I was really lucky.

WHY DO YOU THINK LYNX APPROACHED YOU TO CREATE YOUR OWN ‘FIND YOUR MAGIC’ COLLECTION?

It’s a fashion project that is aimed towards men but I think the lines between gender and fashion is becoming more blurred. I mean I dress like a boy almost everyday, that’s how I feel comfortable, maybe because I’m a woman working in a male dominated industry. My accessories reflect that, they’re very masculine but with a little feminine touch to them and I think that element comes through my art on the pieces.

WHAT WOULD YOU CONSIDER TO BE YOUR MAGIC?

I really thought about this and I think everybody has that one thing and for me, it’s being able to express myself though art. It gives me a lot of confidence and happiness and I wouldn’t trade it for anything in the world. It makes me, me.
